The Government’s Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP accompanied by local MP Barry Shearman, has visited a housing project where 60 HeatKing UK manufactured air source heat pumps have been installed.
The KNH renewable energy scheme working in partnership with Community Energy Solutions (CES) visited the homes in Caldercliffe, West Yorkshire to hear how residents are benefiting from the scheme.
All of the properties, which are off the gas network, previously had to rely on outdated electric storage heaters. CES is a non-profit-distributing organisation, funded by Yorkshire Forward and the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), which helps those off the gas network and living in fuel poverty gain access to cleaner, cheaper and greener fuel sources. HeatKing air source heat pumps are able to reduce energy bills by approximately 70% and carbon emissions by up to 60% when compared with direct electric heating systems so the benefits to these residents has been significant, as well as the local environment.
The Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP said: “Yesterday, the Government set out ambitious plans on how it aims to reduce carbon emissions to limit the effects of climate change. It has been great to see today how the partnership between CES and KNH is already providing cost-effective heating and hot water for people struggling with fuel bills.”
Lee Cattermole, operations director for Leeds-based CES, said: “It has been great to welcome the Rt Hon Hilary Benn to the region today to show how the partnership between CES and forward-thinking organisations like KNH can reap real benefits for their tenants. Just as pleasing was the take up from a number of private households to have ASHPs installed too.” Noel Chambers, Director of Investment at KNH said: “We are committed to providing safe, warm and affordable homes and to eradicating fuel poverty. We’re very keen to use new technologies like air source heat pumps that help us achieve these aims, and that help us support Kirklees Council’s key environmental objectives to help combat climate change.”
As a UK manufacturer HeatKing, a division of TEV Ltd, are delighted that their commitment to developing renewable heating products for the future continues to bring real benefits to the environment and householders alike. With fuel poverty and climate change both continuing concerns in the UK it is vital that energy efficient systems such as air source heat pumps be recognized as a beneficial alternative to traditional heating methods.
