W Pearson, Farmhouse Renovation

W Pearson, Farmhouse Renovation

W Pearson and Son undertook this project for their family home after falling in love with this 300 year old farmhouse and attached barn nestled high in the hills between Lancashire and West Yorkshire. The conversion began with the buildings being totally gutted and almost a complete new build to bring the interior to current building standards.

The completed farmhouse has a beautifully restored exterior with an interior that is both contemporary and of the highest specification. With a commitment to incorporate renewable energy the air source heat pump proved to be the perfect choice for the project.

The installation included double glazing throughout and full insulation of all walls, ceilings and floors. As the property is off the mains gas network the decision to select an ASHP was made after much consideration of oil boilers, ground source heat pumps and wood pellet boilers. The ASHP was selected due to being the cleanest and easiest option and also being significantly cheaper than ground source whilst offering very comparable benefits. A BWarm i 13kW unit was fitted and positioned away from the farmhouse behind a small outhouse. It was connected to underfloor heating beneath stone floors on the ground level and carpeted floors on the first floor. For DHW the system used a dual set point to enable the water to be heated above 60°C weekly to ensure protection from legionella. The family are delighted with the low fuel bills and reliable warmth, even on cold and windy nights and the installation has proved so successful that it will be used for future projects for the company.
