Scunthorpe, North Lincs Housing Association

As part of a commitment to install air source heat pumps in 60 properties, North Lincs Housing Association in partnership with CES have been transforming the lives of local residents. The pilot scheme reflects the local authoritys commitment to tackle escalating fuel costs and introduce lower carbon technologies to local homes.

One of the first properties to be fitted with the heat pump was a one bedroom bungalow in a small village near Scunthorpe where a 6kW heat pump has been installed. As one of the first installations the semi-detached one bedroom bungalow was fitted throughout with a radiator wet system, replacing all electric storage heaters. Outside a 6kW air source heat pump was mounted on a concrete base and fitted to the side of the property. The system was connected for supplying both heating and domestic hot water to the property. The heat pump has made a huge difference to the residents who say not only is it quiet and easy to use but that it is far better and more flexible for heating the home compared with the electric storage heaters as well as givings savings of almost 60% on their fuel bills!

The project will continue to roll out to all 60 properties in North Lincs where air source heat pumps are providing a viable alternative in this off-mains gas area.
